Online sales rise in March

The latest statistics from MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse, a report of the nation's retail and services industry, found consumers increased spending in a variety of different sectors.

Although spending climbed, more consumers were making purchases online rather than traveling to brick and mortar locations. Michael McNamara, vice president of Research and Analysis for the report, said the high gas prices have been one of the driving forces behind the recent boom in e-commerce sales.

Online sales increased 16.1 percent in March, marking the fifth straight month that the sector has achieved double digit growth. Consumers appear to be buying more clothes on the Web, as online apparel surged 18.7 percent.

With consumer confidence up and individuals willing to use their credit cards again to make purchases, it's important that they check their credit reports regularly to make sure all of their bill payments are being recorded accurately.

Credit companies have been known to misreport account information, which can result in an unfair negative mark appearing on consumers' credit reports. As a result, these individuals may be left with bad credit. However, some people may be able to rectify their situation quickly by contacting a credit repair attorney to help them investigate and dispute the problematic blemishes.
